Hold your line when you’re alone and you’re far from home and there’s no-one there to remind you when you’re cold and the streets don’t hold any friendly signs to guide you hold your line I’ll be right beside you you’ll be fine when tonight’s behind you you will find that tomorrow’s all brand new just for you when you find summer’s left behind only autumn leaves to beguile you when your mind is on overdrive and the books don’t seem to bind you hold your line I’ll be right beside you you’ll be fine when tonight’s behind you you will find that tomorrow’s all brand new just for you © & ℗ 2019 Fiona Elisabeth Joy Claus & Merri-May Rens Gill

Most of all 02:25
Most of all I like Sunday mornings all hazy and sublime when sleeping in and snoozing become king and queen of time and I like you I like you most of all, I like you I don’t want bland reality when the day is done I wanna climb Trafalgar lions and ride into the sun and I want you I want you most of all, I want you I don’t need too many things their weight can pull you down but I need a soul to have and hold while this world keeps spinning round and I need you I need you most of all, I need you I love summer colours all fiery and in bloom and starry nights when you can spy a universe above your room and I love you I love you most of all, I love you © & ℗ 2019 Fiona Elisabeth Joy Claus & Merri-May Rens Gill

That's you and I ducks on the pond waggle their tails setting sail for some new adventure two little lives, with one intention travelling together, need I mention... uh – huh – aah uh – huh - aah that’s you and I eyes on the sky looking for rain trying to imagine the feeling on your face again not all things that fall come down some good things go around and around and uh – huh – aah uh – huh - aah that’s you and I two bright hearts stand in the street talking to eachother - all emotion - cats glide by like ships in the night but if they look, they’ll see love in motion uh – huh – aah uh – huh - aah that’s you and I © & ℗ 2019 Fiona Elisabeth Joy Claus & Merri-May Rens Gill

For always 04:26
For always the grass is always greener when you’re near me but there’s none to be found in your ward so now the green light on asphalt in the rain storm as I drive home matters more to me so I’m seeing for you for the rest of my days and I wrote this song for you for always you were a foundation and a rock for me your quiet words were so warm when there was no conversation your clear eyes could see everything mine said in a storm so I’m seeing for you for the rest of my days and I wrote this song for you for always you cannot drive on empty time won’t grow on trees much as I would like you to be here with me and flying in the face of fate can cut your wings so it’s better to be gracious and accept what it brings so I’m seeing for you for the rest of my days and I wrote this song for you for always © & ℗ 2019 Fiona Elisabeth Joy Claus & Merri-May Rens Gill

about

"...this album is gorgeous.... A delight! I've loved the first listen and am looking forward to having it on repeat for the foreseeable future." Ian Shadwell

Intriguingly cinematic modern folk and alt-country - this debut Sunday Heart Parade album features four exquisitely beautiful Australian artists: Melanie Horsnell, Angie Hart, Bec Quade and Rachel Holmshaw, taking turns lead-singing on songs by Fi Claus and Merri-May Gill.

While emotionally engaging, it is also subtly withheld - outer serenity buoyed by an internal sense of fun with dark, twinkling eyes and bare outstretched arms leading you into the woods and snow.

Energies traversed tip hats to Eva Cassidy, Beth Orton, and Iron & Wine, while the very warm arrangements maintain a more modern but still folk-infused feel. Songs like 'That's you and I' and 'For always' are stripped back to bare vocals and guitar. Other arrangements range from full band (Dan Luscombe, Pete Luscombe and Bill McDonald on electric guitar, drums and bass) on 'Most of all', to the addition of even more layers - from Melbourne Symphony strings (Kristian & Michelle on violin and cello) and delicate Antarctic OP1 samples on 'Pacify the sun', to outer-space sounds and even fireworks on the quietly epic 'How can we know'. Then there is 'Would you still love me', which finds Rachel Holmshaw treading somewhere between a very laid-back Shirley Bassey and Portishead's Beth Gibbons, and belongs on a James Bond film... especially with a female lead.

Surprisingly - with all this diversity - there is a strong commonality and unity about this body of work, songs flowing effortlessly from one to another. Perhaps this stems from a combination of the 'deep northern winter' production theme Fi and Merri-May encouraged all members to visualise while working on their parts, plus the mixing and mastering mastery of Anthony Lycenko and Gavin Lurssen.

Light in darkness and weighty in lightness - this dreamy album will keep your log cabin warm despite the icy night outside.

Background goss on Fi Claus & Merri-May Gill:

Merri-May has packed tents at all the major folk festivals around Australia, plus toured extensively through the UK, USA and Canada in her comedy cabaret past-life - including 3 Edinburgh Fringe Festivals - with a 5-star review in The Scotsman. She was previously signed to Hot Records and has supported the likes of Joan Armatrading, Michelle Shocked, Bachelor Girl and Pete Murray.

Fi has had songs on high rotation on Triple J and recorded on Triple J compilations (Like a Version and Roots N All), performed backing vocals and/or violin with some of Australia's greatest musicians (Paul Kelly, Angie Hart, Pete Murray, Stephen Cummings, Dave McCormack and more), toured Aus for 10 years (6 in duo Gorgeous, and 4 as Fi Claus), and songs featured on the mercedesbenz.tv website, visitbrisbane.com.au, Australian feature film All My Friends are Leaving Brisbane, and the latest Moree Plains Shire Tourism film.

Noel Mengel (The Courier Mail) calls Fi a "sunny folk-pop delight", Jeff Jenkins (Inpress/themusic.com.au/Rhythms Magazine) says "she's a major talent" and Ross Clelland (The Drum/themusic.com.au) writes "the great song is in her". If the debut Sunday Heart Parade album is anything to go by, it turns out 'the great song is in co-writing' between Fi Claus and her wife of 13 years: Merri-May Gill (they walked down the aisle to 'Here Come the Brides' on the tuba by The Kransky Sisters' Michelle Watt in 2006, then again in 2019 when Gay Marriage was finally legalized in Australia).
